Last week the team from Houzz joined the showrooms at the Interior Design Center of St. Louis to present valuable insights and data from the 2nd annual Houzz homeowner survey to more than 150 architects, interior designers, home builders, remodelers and other trade professionals.
For those who were unable to attend, here is what you missed…
The new Pro Center, which has step-by-step resources to help improve your profile, video tutorials, links to the Houzz truck decals, and printable review forms, is here: www.houzz.com/proCenter
The top three actions you can take to start increasing your exposure on Houzz are:
1. Upload photos of your projects
2. Request reviews from your clients and colleagues
3. Add a Houzz badge to your website’s homepage
If you missed the presentation, here is a webinar version. The data is national data, but regional data from our Houzz & Home study is provided below:
15 million people are using Houzz.com every month; another 10 million have download the iPad/iPhone or Android apps.
In the St. Louis area specifically:
- 93% are homeowners, 79% are between 35-64
- In the next two years, 84% of homeowners are planning to decorate or redecorate, 42% are planning to remodel or build an addition, 9% are planning to build a custom home
- Top project planned among St. Louis area homeowners are bathrooms (28% planning), kitchens (24%), and landscapes (17%)
- Also in the next two years, 56% are planning to hire a general contractor, 37% a kitchen & bath pro, 21% an interior designer, 16% an architect, and 20% a landscape pro, among other home professionals
- 35% of St. Louis area homeowners went over budget on their last renovation project, and 23% had no budget specified at all
- 79% said improving the look/feel/flow/functionality was an important motivation behind their projects, far higher than the 53% citing increasing home value; however home value did increase as a motivator vs. last year.
- Other important motivators? Storage & organization at 49%, energy efficiency at 33% and incorporating new technologies, cited by 15%.
- Biggest challenges for Houzzers when it comes to renovation & design? Finding the right products and defining their style – a marketing opportunity for all pros on Houzz.
- Top hiring criteria? The pro’s reviews & recommendations, that he/she is an expert in their field, and that the pro has a personality the homeowner can work with.
