In its ninth year, the St. Louis Magazine At Home 2016 Architect and Designer Awards attracted a record number of entries to be judged by an impressive panel of industry experts. Designers and showrooms from the IDC of STL were recognized as both finalists and winners in the contest. April Jensen of ADJ Interiors, seen above (right) took home the award for a Kitchen Over 300 Square Feet. Her design, recently featured in At Home, was part of a whole house project that you might recognize from a previous post.
Her client, who was a bachelor at the time, hopes to someday share his new home with a wife. So while his style was decidedly masculine, his objective was to create a home that would feel warm and welcoming and one that could adapt easily to changing tastes.
The palette, a mix of classic, yet modern neutrals, can be seen in the creamy Calacatta marble, rich wood flooring, metal accents and a unique Italian technique involving staining followed by liming that was applied to the kitchen’s island. Soothing color and texture, soaring ceilings, the graceful curve of the custom range hood and wide open windows evoke simplicity and serenity.
