As mothers themselves, Kim and Leah of K Taylor Design Group welcome the opportunity to design for children and teens. From the start, they insist that the collaboration include both the client and their children, a process made easier by way of modern-day tools like Pinterest and Houzz. In the case of a recent carriage house remodel, the objective was to create a teen bedroom that would stand the test of time, through childhood and beyond.
The transformation involved replacing the room’s existing hunter green fishing theme with fresh florals and clean white trim. Taking cues from nature, Kim and Leah paired vibrant botanical prints with playful polka dots, adding softness with an upholstered headboard, pillows and a plush gray and white chevron rug.
A custom designed window seat provides a cozy spot to read and relax. The choice of simple white bedding a neutral headboard will allow for easy updates—new pillows, cushions or paint—as years pass and tastes change.
The addition of a daybed offers the ideal sleepover solution and privacy can be achieved at the touch of a button thanks to motorized shades from Walbrandt Technologies. Keeping her studies in mind, the pair gave new life to an existing dark wood desk with a glossy white finish and glass knobs.
